Amber

Amber is fossilized tree sap from pine trees and has a hardness of 2 - 2 1/2. It is found mostly in the Baltic regions and dates to the Tertiary period, about 50 million years ago.

Amber can contain insects, liquids, and parts of plants. The round lily pad looking inclusions are caused by heating the amber to harden it and the air bubbles exploding.

Care should be taken not to get hair spray or perfume on your amber as the alcohol will damage it.
